A court-ordered parenting plan is designed to provide structure, consistency, and stability for both parents and, most importantly, the children. It outlines living arrangements, visitation schedules, and decision-making responsibilities. When those rules are broken—whether through missed visitations, unapproved schedule changes, or ongoing conflicts—it places unnecessary strain on everyone involved.

When there is no court order in place, Texas law does not establish official rules for visitation. Instead, both legal parents have entirely equal rights to the child, and the law expects parents to work together to raise the child by agreement according to the child’s best interests.
